Optical Mouse

Inventor Steve Kirsch

Share |

Optical Mouse: an advanced computer pointing device that uses a light-emitting diode, an optical sensor, and digital signal processing in place of the traditional mouse ball and electromechanical transducer. Movement is detected by sensing changes in reflected light, rather than by interpreting the motion of a rolling sphere.

Steve Kirsch, inventor of the optical mouse, talks about what led him to his invention and the founding of a Silicon Valley company.
